About Zulfeqar Ali

I was born in Swat valley the most remote and underprivileged site of Pakistan. After secondary education at a very young age, I used to work voluntarily in different NGO's for the betterment of my society Especially, in the health sector. then I join college for my higher secondary education and got my results with "A" grade. Focusing on my interest I applied for nursing in different college and fortunately got a scholarship at Aga Khan University School of Nursing. The Aga Khan University is the first JCIA accredited university in Pakistan. During the first Year, I became the class representative. I used to involve students in different extra-curricular activities like sports camping and field trips. The second-year at the Aga Khan University School of Nursing is the toughest year of four year studies I continued with the same pace and teamwork we all were able to get good grades. In the third year, AKU students have their alternate week clinical being a group leader I used to take my group to different clinical units and help patients and on-floor staff. In nursing proper communication is the key to success. I am blessed with a very good communication skill which patients and duty staff used to praise. Fourth-year of my study was mostly in communities. We used to go to different communities for awareness sessions like drug abuse, anti-smoking campaigns, and communicable diseases. I attended and delivered speeches on different health issues and in this way I completed my four-year degree in December, 2017 with a 95% attendance. After getting my bachelor’s degree I joined the same university hospital as a trainee nursing Intern in December, 2017 at that time JCIA audit was expected I worked with the staff day and night to get the third time accreditation and fortunately we as team succeeded and got JCIA accreditation. After completing one-year trainee internship program my designation I got my Pakistan Nursing Council card and my changed to Registered Nursing. Now I was able to directly involved in patient care. I provided empathetic care to all patient in such a way that some time they complemented like “I am always waiting for you shift”. I go to duty on time mostly 10 minutes earlier than the duty start time. I work as an advocate for my patients while physician rounds. I inform them about the condition and events that took place on patient. I am having a very good stamina to work double duty when a staff is absent due to casual o r sick leave. I am a friendly attitude person to all my colleagues and patients there I was selected as a team leader for evening and night shifts when head nurse and nursing instructor is not available in the unite. I am very strong in some of the nursing skills like cannulation. Apart from these qualities I want to get deeper knowledge of nursing and change the policies of the swat health care system for the betterment of the people. I want to make a cardiac emergency in my home town because the cardiac issues are increasing day by day. The other issue is the communicable diseases which are transferring with a very high speed due to the unawareness of the society. There Is no concept of maintaining the sterile field, TB patient is kept with the other patient in the same room. Needle prick injuries are also common due to the poor handling of sharps. Cardiac patients is discharged the same day without doing an ECG. After getting my Master degree these issues will remain on the top of my priority list. Besides, these qualities I was also awarded with the following achievements and certifications as well: Certified in Conscious sedation Attended training of Team Leader Development Nursing Education Services, AKUH. Certified for safe medication administration from Nursing Education Services AKUH. Certified of Basic critical care course. Certified for Basic Life Support. Attended five-day course of Basics of Research at the Aga Khan University in 2017.
